Instructor’s Bio

Andrew H. Garrett, originally from Sonoma, Ca. Began cooking professionally at the age of 16 working as a dishwasher at a local pizzeria. Then working as a deli clerk through high school at the Sonoma Cheese Factory. After high school he spent 3 years in the United States Army, and being stationed in southern Germany had the chance to indulge his culinary desire by traveling across Europe from Frankfurt to Paris, Rome, Florence and Spain.

Upon his return home from overseas he began working in a winery catering company and taking classes at the Santa Rosa Junior College. Andrew Worked at Latitude Grill under Executive Chef Yoshinori Kojima where he started as a prep/line cook and after two years was the Sous Chef. With some management experience under his belt he moved on to be the Executive Chef of a local Wedding and Banquet center where for two years he helped to develop a corporate menu, to be used at 7 different locations. Before moving to Portland Andrew joined the “Kitchen @ 868 Grant” staff in Marin Ca, where as the sous chef helped to obtain a 4 star rating from San Francisco Chronicles food Editor as well as scoring 25 in the Zaget Guide.

His passion for brought him to Portland where he worked as Sous Chef for Chris Israel at “23 Hoyt” before leaving to take the reigns of Café Nell where as executive Chef Andrew has already achieved many accolades from local press.
